Last week I drove to Sheridan, WY for an assignment, which was 7 hours one way. On the way back, I gave myself the entire day to make the trip, so I could pull over, walk around, and make pictures. This is one of my favorite ways to shoot, especially when I have the luxury of time.

Much of my assignment work is about putting things together to make a picture -- people, lighting, things, locations, etc. This photo wandering, that I refer to as "hunting and gathering" acts as a sort of creative counterbalance to much of my commercial work.

This image is my favorite from that day. I love the layered patina of the billboard, and how the powerlines seem to connect right to its center -- as if it's transmitting or receiving some unknown message.
